Become a Licensed Marriage Officiant in Ontario

Not every applicant becomes a Togetherness Collective officiant — and that's intentional. We look for individuals with a genuine passion for celebrating love and the commitment to serve couples with warmth, care, and professionalism. Our provincially recognised religious denomination provides thorough training, a welcoming community, and official appointment throughout Ontario. If you feel called to this work, here's how the journey unfolds.

Who can solemnise a marriage in Ontario?

In Ontario, there are only a handful of people who can solemnise a marriage (you'll see them listed on a Marriage Licence):

Judge

A provincial court judge with the authority to conduct legal marriage ceremonies in Ontario.

Justice of the Peace

A judicial officer appointed by the province to perform civil marriage ceremonies among other legal duties.

Registered Indigenous Officiant

A person recognised by an Indigenous organisation or community to perform marriages according to their customs and traditions.

Case Management Master

A judicial officer of the Superior Court of Justice who can conduct marriage ceremonies in Ontario.

Municipal Clerk/Delegate

A local government official authorised to perform civil marriage ceremonies within their municipality.

Registered Religious Officiant

3ESSENTIAL PREPARATION

Once Jeff confirms you're a great fit, you'll be invited to register for our comprehensive 4-hour training — everything you need to perform meaningful ceremonies and handle the legal requirements of marriage in Ontario with confidence.

4SKILLS DEVELOPMENT

Complete Your Training Session

Go beyond the basics in our hands-on training session. You'll master ceremony structure, marriage licence completion, client consultation, and more — guided by our experienced Governing Official in a small, supportive group setting.

5MAKING IT OFFICIAL

Submit Required Documentation

After completing training, submit your background check, signed agreements, and membership fee to finalize your appointment. This is the last step before you're officially recognized as a Registered Religious Officiant in Ontario.
